What the FAA Safety Team Means to Aircraft Mechanicsaircraft mechanic Faasteam

The FAASTeam (FAA Safety Team) is an program put on by the FAA. It is designed to create better communication between mechanics and the FAA.  Joining the FAASTeam is free and easy. Once signed up, you can access additional online training. You do NOT need your A&P certificates to join either.

Online courses for aircraft mechanics include;

  • Aircraft Maintenance Documentation for AMT’s
  • All About Fuel
  • Dirty Dozen – Human Error In Aircraft Maintenance
  • Failure to Follow Procedures – INSPECTIONS
  • Fatigue Countermeasure Training
  • Pneumatic Systems
  • Working Healthy – 8 Steps for Protecting Your Health

AMT Awards Program

Most of the courses provided are for pilots, but the FAA is continuing to add courses for mechanics as well. The more courses you complete, you are awarded stars. Yes, just like in elementary school.  The awards do not mean anything other than you sat through a FAA online course. You won’t be getting any bragging rights.  I guess you could put them in your “additional education” section of your resume. Especially if you are thin in the experience area of your resume. Might be worth a shot.

Nuts and Bolts Newsletter

One of the great publications from the FAA is the Nuts and Bolts Newsletter. The newsletter has unique topics just for aircraft mechanics.  Even the seasoned aircraft mechanic will find the topics to be interesting and at least a good refresher.
